Shullick & Co. — Embedded Systems Engineering Consulting for Hardware Startups
Engineering Consulting
We help startups and small teams get software out of the critical path for hardware launches — designing, building, and debugging the full embedded stack.
What I help with
Embedded Product Development Strategy
I'll architect the full solution at a nuts-and-bolts level — defining the interfaces early so your team can parallelize work and make the most of the time and people you have to get to market as quickly as possible. We'll tune the plan to your stage of growth together, whether you're a founding team deploying your first systems or scaling up the fleet.
Firmware & SDK
I'll own the firmware layer and deliver an SDK for your custom hardware. That includes pinning down RTOS requirements, hardware selection, and end-to-end testing. I have particular experience with high data throughput and imaging systems, though the work spans a broad range of applications.
Firmware Debugging & Root Cause Analysis
For teams stuck on a hard bug. Crashes, race conditions, memory corruption, hardware-software interaction failures — I find what's actually wrong and explain why. Available as a standalone engagement when you need an outside expert who can go all the way down the stack.
Need help with something else? — we'll see what we can do.
Past work
Data acquisition and system architecture for Lumafield's industrial CT scanning platform, spanning FPD bring-up, motion systems, and industrial controls. Led system integration and end-to-end development of the Triton platform.
Worked on firmware and low-level hardware integration for Dojo, Tesla's custom AI training supercomputer. Contributed to the bring-up and validation of novel silicon.
Founding engineer to a YC-backed hardware startup. Built embedded vision systems designed for industrial environments. Took Jetson, ROS, and edge computer vision to production.
Let's chat about what you're building.
FAQ
Who are the engineers?
Michael Shullick — embedded systems engineer with experience across Tesla, Industrial Next, and Lumafield. All work is done directly by Michael; there are no subcontractors.
Where do you work?
Based in Boston, Massachusetts. Most work is carried out remotely, but I prefer on-site visits early in a project to get close to the team and the engineering problems.
